Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the organizing committee and the Polar Section of the Czech Geographical Society, we would like to invite you to the workshop and the 26th meeting of the friends of the Polar Section of the Czech Geographical Society, which will take place at Penzion Kamínek, Byňov 64, Nové Hrady (Restaurace a penzion Kamínek – Mapy Google ) from November 4–6, 2026 (possible arrival on the evening of November 4, 2026; lectures starting on November 5, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.; ending on November 6, 2026, around 2:00 p.m.). Free parking at the guesthouse.
Workshop Topics:
1. Physical and chemical environmental factors (lithosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere) – dynamics, development, and changes
2. Structure, function, and development of plant and animal communities
3. Mechanisms of survival and adaptation of organisms
4. Biodiversity and its evolution
5. Geology of Polar Regions
6. Glaciology and glaciospeleology
7. Tourism and its impact on the environment
8. Current and future Czech research projects in the Arctic and Antarctic
Other activities related to Polar Regions will be offered based on the presenters' topics.
Languages of the workshop: Czech, English, Polish
Conference fee: 1100 CZK, 700 CZK for students, retirees and accompaniment.
Presentations will take 15+5 minutes (the length can be adjusted based upon agreement with the organization team).
Catering – breakfast and other meals for participants will be provided directly in the guesthouse.
The meeting gathers Czech and international researchers studying the Arctic and Antarctic, as well as related areas and topics. The meeting aims at the creation of a platform for researchers discussion across various fields and to connect the scientific community working in the Antarctic and Arctic (including academies of science, universities, other scientific research institutes, organizations, national parks, etc.) with similar research subjects abroad. Popularized forms of presentations are particularly appreciated.
